Special Education for Retarded Children

چکیده

In the early part of 1935 I had the privilege of visiting various Local Education Authorities in England and Scotland to learn of the provision made for the special education of backward children. During the summer months I was helping to arrange three courses for teachers of retarded and defective children, and more recently I have been engaged in investigating in detail the problem presented by the backward child in the elementary schools of an urban area with a school population of about 10,000. It was suggested in the October issue of Mental Welfare that I might, therefore, contribute some information on the work now in progress on behalf of retarded children in the elementary schools.
